The classic Kitabi (medallion) design with the indigo blue arabesque-formed medallion and border with a striking, plain (kafsadeh) burnished copper field within silver and olive spandrels. Representing, as it does so successfully, the central Islamic concept of Towhid, the medallion design has for centuries been the preferred ornament for carpets and book-bindings of the Holy Quran throughout the Moslem world.
